Een onderschatte realiteit van digitale informatievoorziening is de materialiteit van de ICT. Deze tekst komt op het scherm van een pc, werkstation of mobiel. Zoals die wordt getoond op het scherm is hij niet op een schijf opgeslagen. Tussen scherm en opslag zitten veel schakels1, vaak apparaten met de nodige eigen software voor verwerking van de bitstreams en met een stekker in een stopcontact.2 Tot het moment van presentatie zijn de data ook niet zichtbaar.

Op deze foto een stukje hardware in de vorm van SSD opslag (250gb) op het moederbord. Dus een opslagmedium voor de bits en bytes zonder bewegende delen van waaraf in dit geval de computer wordt opgestart en dat ook veel gegevens bevat, die deels ook als veiligheidskopie ergens in een cloud staat..
