Dat hebben we de afgelopen decennia met volle overgave gedaan, maar nu dringt het inzicht door dat cultuur niet alleen leeft van creativiteit, maar ook van continuïteit. Traditie en vernieuwing moeten tegen elkaar schuren, maar het een zonder het ander is steriel.

Haat is de oerpassie. Liefde, dat is een abnormale toestand. Daarom is Christus ook gedood: wat hij zei was tegennatuurlijk. We kunnen niet ons hele leven van iemand houden, vanuit die onmogelijke hoop komt overspel voort, en moedermoord, het verraden van vrienden... Maar we kunnen wel iemand ons hele leven haten. Mits die er altijd is om onze haat te voeden. Haat verwarmt het hart.
